Mendocino Bed and Breakfast
The restoration of the Head Lightkeeper's House into the Lighthouse Inn at Point Cabrillo has been a vision of the Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association (PCLK) for over six years. The newly restored 1909 Head Lightkeeper's House (Inn) now provides our guests with the unusual and magical opportunity to see the Light Station, Lighthouse, and working 3rd Order Fresnel lens at night. An evening's stay at the Inn includes a private night time tour of the Lighthouse with the current Lightkeeper.
The 30.5-acre historic 1909 Point Cabrillo Light Station is bordered on three sides by a Nature Preserve, consisting of 270-acre of undeveloped coastal bluffs, terraces, and prairies. The western most boundaries of the preserve and Light Station are the beautiful, but often moody Pacific Ocean. The Nature Preserve and Light Station include 3.5 miles of trails for hiking, bird watching, and unparalleled views of the Mendocino Coast .
The Nature Preserve's property was purchased by the California State Coastal Conservancy (CSCC) and protected from development in 1987-88, and the Light Station was acquired by the CSCC through a land exchange with the U.S. Coast Guard in 1988. The 3rd Order Fresnel lens (built by the Chance Brothers in England , and one of only three English built lenses in the U.S. ) was restored and returned to active service in 1990. The Lighthouse was restored and opened to the public in 2001. In 2002, the Light Station and Nature Preserve were acquired by the California Department of Parks and Recreation.
The Point Cabrillo Lightkeepers Association, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit corporation, holds a management and concession contract for the Light Station, and coordinates site management, restoration, preservation, and the management of the Lighthouse Inn at Point Cabrillo. All net revenues derived from the Inn and public donations are invested in the restoration, reconstruction, maintenance, educational programs, and operational management of the Light Station.
